How to get there
 
On the way to Salento


By plane
The closest airport to the Puglia Salento region is Brindisi, managed by Seap (Società Esercizio Aereoporti Puglia). Alitalia flies twice daily from Milan Malpensa and once from Linate (about 1 and a half hour flight). From Rome there are four flights a day and one on Sundays. The cost of a round trip changes between 350 euros from Milan to about 225 euros from Rome. On the same route, AirOne schedules one flight a day, except on Saturdays (from 100 to 250 euros) from Rome, one from Turin and three from Milan Linate. To reach Lecce and Salento you have to rent a car from one of the car rental companies in the main Italian airports.

By car
The highways to Puglia are the A14 (or Adriatic) that runs on two thirds of the region and the A16 Napoli- Bari. To reach the Salento region, take the Adriatic-Taranto way and then continue on the Taranto-Brindisi-Lecce highway. The trip from Milan to Lecce will take 12 hours by car. By train The trains from the Northern cities (Milan, Turin, Venice, Rome, Bologna, Trento and Naples) pass through Foggia, Bari, Brindisi and Lecce. By bus
Marozzi bus line (06.44249519) offer many daily links from Rome to Otranto and Lecce. From Pisa there is a bus leaving at 7:00 PM and arriving in Lecce at 8:30 AM and in Otranto one hour later. A Pisa-Otranto ticket costs 110,000 Liras.

In diesel rail car
In addition to regional rail road lines and buses to the numerous holiday resorts, whoever wants to travel slowly, like with a vacation of the old times, can use the Salento's Diesel rail-car. It leaves from Lecce and arrives to the extreme South of Puglia, Gagliano del Capo in 1 hour and 40 minutes. The line is managed by the historic South-East Rail Lines (080.5462111), and its level crossings are still handled by hand. The return ticket costs 13,000 Liras.
