Lambrusco
” Lambruscos and pop corn“, sang Luciano Ligabue, some years ago, referring to the most widespread sparkling red wine in Italy and well appreciated by the young Americans and known as the "Italian Coca Cola". The Lambrusco, in all its different (Dry, Amiable, Sweet, Red or Rose) and families (Sorbara, Grasparossa, Santa Croce or Reggiano) is considered a common wine: perfect at the table, lively, exuberant, adapted to the consumer's taste, but made according to the standards of quality. They produce 180 millions of bottles in a year, 60% of which are exported, in particular to USA, Canada, Brazil, UK and Germany. The Consortium of Historical Brands of the Modenese Lambrusco in the last few years is focusing specifically to improve this wine, strongly related to the Emilian traditions, in an undissolvable way, and obtained from a native vineyard. The strongest relationship with the Modenese territory was created in Sorbora, where Lambrusco originated and all the other varieties have spread out. The growth of Lambrusco is due to the sandy soil in the surrounding area of Secchia and Panaro rivers, where the vineyard can find water and organic substances for juicy and tasty bunches.
Since Roman time, the wild grape, grown spontaneously on the edge of the forests, has been called "Lambrusca" and so on once the cultivation began on the hills near Modena and Reggio Emilia.
